Beschrijving

The statistics on museums provide information on companies and institutions in the Netherlands which acquire, conserve and exhibit the material witnesses of mankind and his environment. This includes not only the companies and institutions for which exploiting a museum is the main activity but also the museums which are a sideline of the company or institution (for example being part of a municipality, university or hospital).

This table presents figures on

  • the number of museums;
  • the number of museums by size according to number of visits;
  • the total number of visits broken down by paid visits and free visits;
  • the average number of visits per museum and the number of visits of foreigners;
  • employees (in number of persons as well as full-time equivalents) on the payroll, other employees and volunteers.

These figures are further specified by type of museum, the composition of the staff and size category according to full-time equivalents of employees.
